As mentioned earlier Vincent is diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

DMD is:

  • The most severe and common forms of MD

  • One of the most rapidly progressive of the childhood neuromuscular disorders

  • Due to a lack of the protein dystrophin (a protein that keeps muscles intact) muscles deteriorate and break down

  • Primarily affects boys, rarely affects girls

Symptoms:

  • A delayed walking age with first steps being taken at around 18 months, and once walking may fall often

  • Difficulty climbing stairs, running, jumping, getting up from the floor

  • Enlargement of the calves

  • May start to walk on the toes

These symptoms usually start from ages 1-3 and progress until a wheelchair is required, generally between ages 8-12.

There is NO found cure for muscular dystrophy
