How is physical movement impaired?
When an individual with MD's muscles start to weaken their physical movement becomes a lot more difficult as their muscles can't aid them in their movement. As a result of this, movement can become very limited and movement may need to be assisted.

What supports do people with MD use?
Supportive aids are available and care by a team of medical professionals can improve comfort, mobility and even life expectancy.
Many aids include:
- Raised chairs and toilet seats
- Grab bars
- Bath tub benches
- High stools
- Clothing adaptions (utilising special zippers on trousers, easily manipulated velcro fastenings, etc)
- Footboards to diminish heel cord contracture, and
- Electric, hydraulic or mechanical lifts to transfer to and from bed and bath
